A Case Report of a Patient with Subacute Insomnia Diagnosed as Deficiency of Qi and Blood Treated with Complex Korean Medical Treatment

Abstract
|
|
|
Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of complex korean medical treatment on insomnia
in a 62-year-old female patient who has Bell¡¯s palsy.
Methods The 62-years old female patient who has been hospitalized due to Bell¡¯s palsy was suffered by sleep
disturbance. The patient was treated by Hominis placenta herbal acupuncture on CV4, GB20, GB21, BL11-BL25 and dry
cupping, auricular acupuncture was executed. Insomnia symptom was assessed by Insomnia Severity Index(ISI),
Sleep Log, Korean version of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI-K), Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). The patient was
observed during 2days, from April 25th to April 26th and after the observation period, the treatment was executed
during 7 days from April 27th to April 30th and from May 2th to May 4th, once a day.
Results After the treatment, ISI score decreased from 20 to 17, and The Changes of Seep efficiency on during treatment increased from 31.25% to 38.88%. Total PSQI-K score decreased form 19 to 17. The average of VAS on discomfort of sleep decreased from 7.3 to 6.5.
Conclusions The results suggest that complex korean medical treatment can be a valuable option for treating insomnia.
